THE WITCH IS IN
Plant people. They go by many names. Herbalist, Gardener, Grandmother, Witch... but the truth is that the plant person is within all of us. We are the mothers making tea for our sick child. We are children blowing soft fluffy dandelions seeds through the breeze. We are those who stop to admire a beautiful flower, an exceptionally tall tree, or strange or unique looking fungi. We are those who long to find and taste the sweet, sour, and bitter flavors of nature’s wild foods. We are those who recognize the transformative power of being in the presence of a pristine natural landscape.
Humans have been engaged in the practice of working directly with plants as food and medicine since the very beginning. We have evolved together and have survived with their direct assistance. Plants are part of our story. Their role is vital to not only our past, but also our present and future.
Even though vast amounts of plant intelligence and knowledge seems to have been lost, plants remain a huge aspect of who we are. The rich history of herbal medicine is intertwined in every single culture. It lives on in the form of story, folklore, song, art, music, food, and tradition. There are places in the world where herbal medicine is still the primary source of health care.
The plants are still here, and it is they who are the teachers. They have so much to tell us if only we make ourselves available to listen and remember. Many of us have not grown up with the connection to the plants that our ancestors once enjoyed and relied on. We have made so many invaluable advancements in the field of modern medicine, but we must be careful to not trade the sovereignty and decision making power that working directly with plants provides us. We are thinking, feeling, sensitive unique beings who deserve individual holistic care and attention.
We still have the keen senses that make communication with the plants possible, but they must be honed. It is intuition, yet so much more. It is the ability to open ourselves up to observation, vision, feeling, common sense, variation of taste and smell, patterns, and deep knowing. All is not lost. We must decide however to make a shift, to forage a new path—people and plants together with gratitude.
I am here to share what I am learning from the plants and to offer you fresh, potent herbal plant extracts—salves, balms, skin care & oral care as well. I am forever a humble student of nature, and my offerings change and grow as I do. I hope to spark some interest for you if you are just beginning to become interested in herbal medicine, medicinal plants, wildcrafting, foraging, wild foods, or are simply interested in making your own natural self-care creations. Thank you for being here with me, and many blessings upon you and yours.
